Hello internets! We'd like to take a moment to welcome ourselves back to you! We welcome social-networking genius and web 2.0 savant David Kadavy back to the show to chat for a pleasant 34 minutes about social networking and entrepreneurial instinct of designers. We also spend a solid 5 to 10 minutes with the most pointless Mountain Dew Taste Test of all time (Not Halo Mt. Dew = FAIL).

BarCamp Omaha, 2008

If you're in the Omaha area this weekend (August 15-17, 2008), this is your chance to go to the best free conference of the year - BarCamp Omaha.

Nate and I first heard of these BarCamps last month (I guess they are now being hosted all over the country), and it was a bit weird trying to wrap our heads around the concept, but we listened, and we liked it. So much so that we've been helping out on the one in Omaha.

The idea is simple - a bunch of creatives (mostly programmers and designers) get together and decide in the morning what each of them wants to talk about. The day is then broken into thirty-minute speeches given by the attendees. It's like going to see over a dozen people talk about their passion and projects while you speak about yours.

Nate and I will be giving the presentation we gave last month to AIGA Iowa about "Blogging, Podcasting + Design" and encouraging designers who attend to bring their portfolios (or at least a project) to share.

Bring camping gear and stay for the weekend, or just stop by for the speeches on Saturday. Meet creatives that you can relate to, it should be a blast. Registration is now online. And it's free.

We'll be Back (Next Wednesday!)

For everyone wondering what happened to the show, never fear! We'll be back next Wednesday, August 13, with our special guest and friend David Kadavy to talk about networking for graphic designers. Until then, kick up your feet and enjoy the summer vacation!

Just making sure you know we're still here,

Nate and Donovan

"Today we are joined by Stanley Hainsworth's hair, and, by extension, Stanley Hainsworth himself."

Stanley Hainsworth, if taken by his past works, could easily be described as a genius of design (take those stints creative-directing companies like Nike, Lego, and Starbucks for the past 20 years, for example). But when you add in his uncanny appearance, you know you must call him a mad genius! Not that he's unpleasant, by any means. Stanley is in fact quite nice, and as it happens very forthcoming about his work.

What really makes this show shine was the interview took place about one month after Stanley Hainsworth left Starbucks to begin his own creative endeavor, Tether, which you can find out all about at www.tethercreate.com, and we kindly persuade Mr. Hainsworth to spill the proverbial beans on the project. Enjoy.

Although we've gotten ear-fulls about the design of our site -- what I would describe as "grace beyond compare" -- our friends over at HOW have informed us they are getting ready to celebrate the next crop of fantastic interactive design outside of just us. The deadline for entries is July 15. I'm not entirely sure, based on the HOW website, if they've done this since 2006, since that's the last gallery of winners they have available, and it's kind of rough to flip through, honestly. So I think I'll take a moment to point out a similar online gallery that really excels, and leave the comparison-drawing to whom it may concern.

Read on for the official word from HOW.
