During our recent trip to Kansas City to hang out with the coolest people we could find (a successful endeavor to be certain), we quite accidentally ran into two dudes doing the exact same thing, only across the entire country. Then, in fact, we discovered they have not only been through our town (no doubt on a train car or dusty back road), but they knew our friends and, in fact, have profiled some of them.

They seemed polite enough, you know, for hobos. I don't think they were actively being malicious or mischievous, but the way they afford to travel the country is, sadly, accurately depicted in the strip. Pray for them that they don't knock on the wrong door.

Or that they do. I'm not here to judge your level of evil.

You guys clearly miss the point, but here is your logo. Where should we send the bill?

Poor Nate Voss .. is he threatened by young designers on the road?

Way to pick on the little guys douchebag.

    Bradley Elliott | September 13, 2009 10:51 PM

Not cool. These guys are doing something refreshing and interesting. I disagree that this is a bad thing, and I'm behind these guys 100%. I think you've misrepresented them just a little bit.

Oh to be young and adventurous enough to live the life of a Free-Range-Designer. I salute these "Drifting Creatives". As they so aptly point out, the majority of the work they do on the road is FOR design firms, not filched FROM them. In fact Nate, if you have to worry about two itinerant designers stealing your customers, you must not be meeting their needs and they're not really your customers. Get real. These guys are breaking the mold. . .

The Drifting Creatives are friends of mine from Texas, so first let me say they are great guys on an amazing journey. Second, I wonder what would happen if Nate would see a chance for collaboration instead of concern -- making connections is an essential part of unexpected creative possibilities!

Hobo is not a word that came to mind when I met these fresh out of college (read: well-educated) designers. They were guests at our home for two days and I feel the experience and wisdom they are seeking from others in the industry will prepare them for successful future ventures. Drifting Creatives' ability to get along well with others is also key in business...maybe Nate can take a few lessons from Martin and Gavin and make nice.
