First off, huge thanks again to Dyana Valentine for doing her usual great job, and being a wonderful co-host.
On this episode, Jim talks about the power of saying “no.” We then talk about designing for pets, and specifically, the issues with dealing with having fish as models. Enjoy, we’ll be back with a new show next week!
HOW Live in San Francisco may have ended almost two weeks ago (hear our coverage of the event), but we’re just getting started here at 36 Point. While there, we were able to do some other recordings as well – including five full episodes of The Reflex Blue Show – the first one of which is co-hosted by Dyana Valentine.
With guests (and HOW speakers) Justin Ahrens and Jim Krause, we speak about work-life balance, 30 in 60, story, pugs, and more. We’ll be back next week. And big thanks goes out to the HOW staff for helping us set up an interview room again, much appreciated.
I guess we’re already on HOW Season! The main HOW Design Live Conference doesn’t kick off for a few hours, but the Creative Freelancer, DieLine, and InHOWSE are starting up strong. And being set in the backdrop of San Francisco is paying off in spades, as you can see by the photo above that I got from Musée Mécanique off of the Pier, above.
So, what do we have to look forward to, and what is this year’s event bringing? We do a quick recap of the day and expectations for the week with Dyana Valentine, Jamie Saunders, and first-time attendee Kelsey Erck. Enjoy.
Our 6th interview podcast from HOW Live (recorded in Boston), brings us Jim Krause – and the return of Dyana Valentine.
Jim Krause has written many of the books you’ve seen in the profession of graphic design (color index books, the new logo brainstorm book, idea index, and more). Dyana needs no introduction on this show.
This is very much a traditional Reflex Blue Show where we chat about a bit of everything: what Dyana is doing for Neenah Paper at the conference; Jim’s books; Darcy Hinrichs introducing their joint talk; their joint ’30 in 60′ talk (which I also blogged about for Against the Grain); movies; and more.
Next week we’ll be back with an AIGA Nebraska event special. Following that? Hatch Design joins us for our final HOW Live, and season 5 finale – The Reflex Blue Show #100 (what?! We’ve done 100 of these? Really?).
Our 3rd interview podcast from HOW Live (recorded in Boston), brings us two speakers in one show!
Luke Mysse of Crossgrain, got rave reviews by the people we spoke with last year at the Creative Freelancer Conference, and was at the top of our list to speak to because of it. We talk with Luke about how the times in-between conference events is as important as the conference times themselves; using marketing strategy to help your design; leveraging your strengths; and setting up an advisory board for your design business.
Dyana Valentine is always at the top of our list – talking with her is like doing a shot of espresso – you’re always awake and in a better mood afterwards. We speak with Dyana about the changes she has made to Pitch Perfect since our last chat; super conditions; and more.
And on a HOW-related note, for those going to either of the the HOW Interactive Conferences in 2012 (this is the conference we had Ben Lueders cover last year if you want to hear about it directly from some of the attendees), use promo code 36POINT to save an extra $50 on registration.
