If you wonder what venues we’d take you to if you ever make it to Omaha, wonder no more. Thanks goes out to Rockport Publishers for inviting our frequent guest Steve Gordon, super talented designer Brandon Herbel, and myself to give today’s Friday Feast for their RockPaperInk blog.

Spending the weekend after Thanksgiving working in the attic, my wife found a business card laying in the insulation.
Since we had the original asbestos slate shingles replaced last year, we assume this is the business card from the original roofer of our house in 1940. And now I know why everything looked so good back in the days before America’s involvement in the war – there were obviously no client demands about how much information needed to be on items like their business cards.
Do you need a city, state and zip code? Like we’re doing work outside of Omaha?
Do you need your fax, cell and office phones listed? What?
How about your website and email address? Are you drinking whiskey at 7 in the morning?
Maybe a nice photo of a roof or a shingle? I think If it’s a roof call “Mac” will get the point across.
Type choice limitation really helps in instances like this. No need for a half dozen fonts when you don’t have access to them. And thankfully Comic Sans is still 54 years away.
And dealing with phone numbers only four digits in length? Too bad the 1960s killed that one…
What? A year already? Can it be? I guess we need to celebrate!
36 Point and The Reflex Blue Show are turning a year old! So we’re hosting a party at the Nomad Lounge in downtown Omaha on Saturday, February 28th, 2009 (9PM – close). We have a section in the back reserved, and all are welcome to attend (well, Nebraska state law requires you be 21, we can’t do anything about that part, sorry).
But why just go out, when you can bring in friends and help out a great cause too? So, during the weekend, we’ll also be welcoming to Omaha for the day special guests Steve Hartman of Creativille, Justin Ahrens of Rule29, and Christine Taylor of Hallmark to work on a design for Life in Abundance. The final product will be letterpress posters printed by Spark Stationery (so you know they’ll be sweet, because everything Spark touches looks hot) on Neenah paper (which is awesome too).
We plan to see you a week from Saturday at Nomad, where Nate, Donovan, and our guests will be. A $5 donation to Life in Abundance is recommended to attend. Check our Facebook group to confirm attendance if you want it to be known.
And this is all for a good cause: Life in Abundance works in urban and rural slums of Northeast Africa on helping to empower the most marginalized in areas of education, Aids, healthcare, sanitation, poverty and more by equipping communities to rise above their circumstances.
