Meeting Stefan Bucher

I had originally met Stefan the first weekend in October 2002, when he was judging the AIGA Nebraska design competition along with Steve Hartman and Sharon Werner. It was the first year I had entered more than one item into the competition, and the first time I would witness a design competition be judged, as I was helping move entries and doing some of the behind the scenes work.

I got shut out. Nate, who designed the poster for the competition won a gold award.

I have yet to be shut out since, but I realized how random some judging can be. You will almost always lose more than you win, so it seems pointless to hold it against anyone. I just found it odd that the first two guests we’ve had on the podcast are two of the judges from the same show, and I of course had to mention it to both of them.

But neither were in the area to judge this time, they were here to present, and in Stefan’s case, also paint a mural (shown after the jump).

The Trouble With Comments Fixed

Last night we found out why none of your comments had been posting to the site and fixed that. We just thought we were unpopular — but it turns out there’s actually plenty of love to go around on the internet after all. Thanks for everyone who listened to the first show and we’ve got another one locked and loaded for this Wednesday — as well as a few other surprises.

Welcome to the first episode of The Reflex Blue Show with Nate Voss and Donovan Beery! On this week’s episode, we welcome our good friend Steve Hartman of Creativille. Steve is a member of the AIGA Board of Directors and works a great deal with design education for K-12 when he’s not pumping out pure genius at his day job. It also helps that he’s one hell of a nice guy.

Next week’s scheduled episode will feature Stefan Bucher, author of 100 Days of Monsters (baring any airport or travel shenanigans!)

New Music For The Reflex Blue Show

rdqlus-Dustlab.jpg

Just heard our first preview of the new music for The Reflex Blue Show, and let me just say our minds are blown.

Fans of the old music — mixed by me in 2005, then again in 2006, in Garage Band using their freebie basic tracks — may be temporarily taken aback by the new tracks, but only long enough for them to hear the jump in quality that can only be described as light years beyond the original music. So out are the stock baselines, stock drums, stock wakka-wakkas and in is the real music.

If you want to hear more of Steve’s amazing DJ talents, you can head to his Dustlab Myspace page. I’m a big fan of Tokens and Headphones.

Yes it is a website. No it is not a design blog. Let that go.
